Urban mammals and their gut microbiota: what determines what?
I am an evolutionary ecologist specialised in animal-microbiota interactions. In the research group I lead at the University of Copenhagen we intend to quantify the magnitude and decipher the mechanisms through which microorganisms affect or determine ecological and evolutionary processes in vertebrates. We implement multi-omics on wild vertebrates (www.earthhologenome.org) to characterise genomic properties of both hosts and microbial communities, and we run captivity experiments (www.ziba.eus) to ascertain how these changes affect animal behaviour, physiology and fitness.
